OPENLab is the IMA Group’s network of technological laboratories and testing areas, dedicated to the research on sustainable materials, technologies and production optimisation processes.
About us
Thanks to the implementation of the most modern digital infrastructures, together with think tank spaces, environments dedicated to the generation of ideas and the prototyping of materials, we aim to build a connection between knowledge and skills coming from machines, packaging manufacturing and customers.
OPENLab analyses most of the new sustainable and innovative materials such as new compostable, biodegradable, paper-based or ultra-thin film, before they are commercially available.
Thanks to OPENLab, we are able to design turnkey solutions that perfectly match the sealing and flow characteristics of the chosen film.
The offer also includes in-depth tests on new materials, from laboratory analysis to production tests that simulate real life conditions, avoiding downtime and costly errors.
Mission
OPENLab’s objective is to create partnerships, finding new sustainable materials, sharing competences and creating synergy with packaging manufacturers and customers.
This is a new way to accompany and guide our partners towards the materials’ evolution.
The Lab aims to maximise equipment’s efficiency, reduce waste whilst maintaining pack presentation and seal integrity, testing in advance new and more sustainable packaging materials.
The Team
Our team of experts has specific background in packaging materials, machines and processes.
A trained staff is constantly dedicated to the Lab’s activities, to support proofs and tests.
Our staff can help customers to try new materials directly on the machines available in the different Labs and is constantly at disposal.
OPENLab’s experts will evaluate and study the technical anomalies that prevent the correct use of your film on the packaging machine. Whether it is a different film composition or a mechanical failure, our team will analyse both the material and the machine to diagnose the problem and restore the best performance.
