IMA Sarong was established in 1972 with the aim of introducing the first fully automatic Vertical Thermoform, Fill & Seal machine, model SG-12, for the production of 22,000 suppositories per hour in plastic containers. Shortly thereafter, IMA Sarong expanded into the production of packaging materials to create a fully integrated system of machinery and optimally matched packaging materials.
The Pharma Business Unit remains one of the company’s core sectors, boasting almost 70% of the worldwide installed capacity for suppository machinery and up to 85% for suppository packaging films. This success underscores IMA Sarong ’s recognized leadership in the suppository packaging market, bolstered by its R&D expertise and high-quality After Sales services, including technical assistance, spare parts, and change parts.
Over the years, IMA Sarong has expanded its range of FFS packaging lines, introducing models catering to small, medium, and large production scales, with capacities ranging from 6,000 to 30,000 suppositories per hour. These are packed using plastic films (ThermoForming process) or aluminum foils (Cold Forming process). In 1984, SARONG further diversified its offerings by supplying the first Vertical Thermoform, Fill & Seal machine for unit-doses of pharmaceutical liquid or semi-liquid products.

Packaging Materials Division
Vertical form, fill & seal for suppositories and ovules
The technical principles used for our suppository/ovule machines are based on a continuous band formed by two films.
For plastic films, the containers are thermoformed, for aluminum foil the containers are cold-formed. The suppositorial mass is then liquid filled into the containers by a volumetric pump. The containers pass through a cooling tunnel to solidify the product. The process ends with the sealing of the packages and the cutting of the continuous band into strips of set number.

Vertical form fill & seal for unit dose
The technical principles used for our Form, Fill & Seal machines for unit dose are based on a continuous band made from two reels of plastic film, each strip thermoformed inside the forming mould using compressed air, heat sealed together, vertically filled through a volumetric pump, then individually sealed in the heated sealing mould and cut in strips of the pre-set number of containers.

IMA Sarong Production Factory for empty suppository/ovule containers (cavities)
IMA Sarong has an internal department specialized in producing empty containers for suppositories and ovules in rolls on a contract manufacturing basis, designed for use in suppository filling and sealing machines.
This facility includes a thermoforming production unit, a Quality Assurance laboratory, warehouses, and logistic areas.
